<Measuring Tapered Holes> There are times when we want to measure tapered (conical) holes. The typical measurement targets are the large diameter, small diameter, angle, taper length, and geometric tolerances. Large diameter: The largest diameter Small diameter: The smallest diameter Angle: The angle of the cone Taper length: The distance from the large diameter to the small diameter Geometric tolerances: Various tolerances such as positional tolerance and coaxiality Since tapered holes often connect to straight holes, there may be cases where we want to measure both the straight and tapered holes simultaneously. It is impossible to measure tapered holes easily with general-purpose measuring tools. Additionally, there may be cases where we want to confirm whether the tapered hole is machined to be perfectly round, similar to straight holes. This means we want to check the roundness of the tapered hole to see if it is an assembly of ellipses. <Easily Measuring> The easiest way to measure tapered holes is with a gauge. While measurement with a three-dimensional measuring machine is also possible, measuring with a gauge allows for much faster and easier measurements.
